Rises in Kaimanawa Forest Park, flows through native bush, then exotic forest and lastly pastoral land, to enter Lake Taupo on the south-east side.
The most popular and heavily fished section on this river is the middle reaches. A few resident fish remain after the spawning runs but the time to fish is between the end of March and the end of September and perferable after a fresh fall of rain. With luck, the river will be full of fighting fresh run rainbow trout moving up the river from lake Taupo to spawn, so the fishing can be very exciting.
SEASON: Above the Ranges Pool, 1 December to 31 May, below open all year.
Situated up stream just below the Cliff Pool and 1 minutes walk to the river, this is a great place to fish and unwind right on some of the best pools of the river, right at your door step ( Access to this area is by key only ).
