The Hawkes Bay Regional Council provides a wonderful service for local trout fishermen.
The council’s surface water network consists of automatic water level recording stations throughout Hawkes Bay, including all our top fly fishing rivers.
The information presented is from our telemetered network of 30 surface water flow sites through the region.
For the surface water sites, the information is gathered in the form of river height or “stage” and converted to actual river flows by the use of a rating curve.
Because of the unstable nature of the beds of many of the region’s rivers, the rating curves are subject to constant review and updating, particularly after each significant storm event.
